The First Board

I made the first board because I wanted to give life to an idea that had been in my head for some time. I wanted to recognize Mike Marshall and his initial influence in my shaping career. This board was also a way to create fun and function during a pandemic. I was surprised to see that it sparked the beginning of Farwell Surfboards.

I ordered a blank with dual off set red stringers and red glue in homage to Mike “Coach” Marshall. My plan was to make a 9’10” noserider that could perform well at a beach break like Blackie’s. The idea for my outline was intended to be a nimble noserider - maneuverable and easy to paddle through the ever increasing crowd.

With this first board, my brand was born. The ideas keep coming, people want boards, and I love shaping them.
